What is strudel?

A strudel is a traditional Austrian pastry and a popular dessert in many European countries. The roots of strudel are believed to be in the near East where it slowly made its way to Austria. Generally, strudel can be a variety of sweet or savory fillings housed in thin layers of dough.

At Little Austria we use our hand-made strudel dough that is stretched wafer thin, then rolled with the filling inside, and baked until crisp on the outside and warm on the inside – just the way you would find it in a traditional Viennese coffee shop.

Pre-heat your oven to 350F and place the strudel onto a baking sheet. An already baked strudel or strudel slice bought at your area farmers market or picked up with your catering order, will take about ~15 min to warm up. Oven performance varies - check your oven frequently so that your strudel doesn’t get too dark on the outside.

Yes. Strudel can be frozen and kept in the freezer for up to six months.

#9

Gluten is a general name for proteins found in wheat, rye, oats and other grains. Gluten is responsible for the elastic texture of dough.
