SAN ANGELO – Kite flyers, you are clear for take-off from Kirby Park’s airfield. The weather forecast called for temperatures in the mid-70s, with wind speeds up to 15 mph SW.
The weather conditions cooperated perfectly as eager children brought by their parents turned out to show off their kite flying skills in the second annual Kids Day Out Kite Flying held from 11 a.m. -2 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2023.
Brent Calder, father of twins, Ryan and Dylan brought his sons whose favorite Sky Diamond kite was comprised of the four most famous Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo. Ryan’s ninja kite also had one other slight modification. The 11-year-old used a fishing reel rather than string because it gave him the leverage to reel in the kite quicker.
One other family among the many at Kirby Park was Anna Krisnan and her lovely daughters: Alisha, and Myra. Alisha loves unicorns while Myra likes kitties, they both had the kite designed with those two themes in mind.
Brandy Villarreal, owner of Chic Leflair Entertainment and a certified event planner, stated approximately 13 vendors attended the Saturday event. One of those was an up-and-coming entrepreneur, Kiana Torres whose father, Roger is helping her grow the business, Crafty Lil Canines. The delicious dog treat ingredients are made of peanut butter for fiber and protein, banana for vitamin C and potassium, and pumpkin for constipation and more.
“We like to support our community and the vendors as much as possible,” stated Villareal. So much that she and co-sponsor, Blackshire Heights Family gave away over 200 free kite kits which consisted of Barbie, Transformers, Spiderman, etc.
