We use 4 cups of water to 1lb of dry black beans. We also add in a little salt andyou may also add any spices or herbs, like in our Mexican Black Beans.
Do you have to soak beans before putting into the Instant Pot?

How to cook black beans in the Instant Pot
- Before you can cook dried beans, remove any dirt or debris from the beans. Thoroughly rinse them under cold running water and then add dry black beans to the instant pot.
- Pour in the water and set valve to Sealing, then select Pressure Cook setting to High for 25 minutes.
- Allow the instant pot to come to pressurize (time will depend on your altitude, mine took 12 minutes), once it’s pressurized cooking time will begin to count down. Once the 25 minutes are up, and the machine beeps, allow it to Release Naturally for 15 minutes. DO NOT QUICK RELEASE.
- Once this time is up, release any remaining pressure in the pot by setting the valve to Venting.
- Carefully open the pot turning away from your face. You can use a wooden spoon instead of your hand as well.
- Most of the water will have been absorbed by the beans. At this time you can add salt or any seasonings you would like.
- Serve and enjoy the black beans as desired.
