Brickle Dip – Trust us… It’s Good!

It was a LONG time ago that I tried Apple Brickle Dip for the first time. I was attending a baby shower and saw a dip sitting amongst a bunch of apples. Honestly, I was hesitant to try the dip because it looked a little more like tuna than a yummy fruit dip (true story)!

After the host told me what kind of dip it was, I decided to try it. I’m SO glad I did because the dip is absolutely heavenly!!! It has since become a very common and yummy treat my family makes for showers and get togethers.

This dip can be served with many things, but if you’re serving it with apples, here are some tips…

Keeping the apples from turning brown

Once an apple has been cut it exposes the damaged/cut cells to oxygen which causes iron oxide to form on the apple slices. Basically, a cut apple = a browning apple.

Thankfully, there are many great tricks you can use to help keep your apples from browning while sitting on the serving tray.

  • Use “Ball’s Fresh Fruit”: This is an ascorbic acid/Vitamin C product that can be found in the canning section at the market. In my opinion, this works the best.
  • Lemon juice or any juice containing citric acid. Simply brush or dip the fruit with the juice. Be aware that whatever flavor juice you use will affect the taste of the apple.
  • Soak in ginger aer
  • Use tart apples as they have a higher acidic level
  • Use a very sharp knife. A sharp knife does less damage to the apple cells

Types of fresh apples: You can use any type of apple for this fun dessert dip. Some common tart apples include: Granny Smith green apples, Pink Lady, Braeburn and McIntosh. Some sweet apples would be: Gala, Fuji, and Honeycrisp.

How to Make Brickle Dip + Serving Ideas

This dip is beyond easy to make!!

BEAT + FOLD. You can use a stand mixer or hand mixer to beat the cream cheese, sugars and vanilla in a bowl. Then fold in the toffee bits. It’s that simple. 😉

Heath English Toffee Bits are also called Brickle Chips. They are pre chopped toffee pieces you can find bags in the baking section near the chocolate chips. You can also make your own using Heath bars. Simply chop the candy bars into small heath bits that you can use in the dip.

Other Mix Ins:

  • Add chopped almond, pecan, or walnut on top.
  • Add a touch of chocolate by mixing in mini chocolate chips
  • Chop other types of candy bars like Twix, Kit Kats or Crunch Bars
  • Add softened caramel bits

Tips for Serving + Storing

Not just for apples! Though this is mainly an apple dip, you can certainly use other delicious items such as:

  • Firmer fruits like melons, pineapples, berries
  • Graham crackers
  • Cookies: Vanilla wafers, Oreos, gingersnaps
  • Plain pretzels or chocolate covered pretzels

Make ahead of time: You can easily make this a few days ahead of time, just wait to add the Toffee topping. Keep the dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Allow it to soften at room temperature for about 30 minutes before adding the topping and serving.

Leftovers can be STORED in the fridge for up to 5 days total.
